The Kneehill County Agricultural Service Board (ASB) coordinates sustainable agriculture programming with assistance in grant funding and technical support from the Environmental Funding Stream (EFS) program. Through the EFS extension programs and resources, Kneehill County ASB is encouraging on-farm adoption of Beneficial Management practices (BMP) which are cost-effective, practical farm management methods that minimize environmental impacts.
Kneehill County Agricultural Service Board concentrates their EFS programming in the following three areas:
1. Riparian Health & Management
a. Off-site Watering Systems
b. Incorporation of Grass Buffering Systems Along Water Courses
c. Riparian & Range Health Assessments
d. Riparian Shelterbelt Plantings
2. Land Use & Nutrient Management
a. Livestock Wintering Sites
b. Grazing Practices (Swath, Bale, Rotation)
c. Permanent Cover on Marginal Lands
d. Livestock Manure Storage & Distribution
e. Commercial Fertilizer & Pesticide Application Using VRT and Sectional Control Systems
3. Environmental Stewardship Plans
a. Environmental Farm Plans - Increase Producer Participation
b. Growing Forward Stewardship Plans
