 Kneehill County Agriculture Service Board

As farming operations and practices have expanded over the years, significant production and environmental issues have emerged.  In the early years of agriculture the concerns included the introduction and spread of new weed seeds and soil erosion caused by wind and water.  Presently crop and livestock diseases and the effects of farming practices on the environment are at the forefront. As the Kneehill County Agricultural Service Board, our goals are to encourage the preservation and efficient use of our soil and water resources and prevent the spread of invasive weeds.

In order to meet these goals we advise landowners concerning proper land utilization with a view to improving their economic well being.  Priorities include; effective pest control using an integrated pest management approach in controlling weeds, diseases, insects and predators, and the prevention of soil and water degradation.

In pursuit of water conservation the Kneehill County Agricultural Service Board has membership with the following watershed organizations: The Red Deer River Watershed Alliance and The Red - Bow Regional Watersheds Alliance.  These groups promote and organize community events, programs and information on sustainable land and water use in the watersheds.

The Agricultural Service Board strives to deliver programs that focus on providing training, specialized equipment or information on available resources that will assist farmers to deal with their issues effectively. The Agricultural Service Board itself is comprised of two Kneehill County Council members and three Member at Large, the Agricultural Fieldman and Conservation Fieldman.
