How do I find out what road bans are in effect?
Road Ban information is posted on the website on the home page in the County News section at the top of the screen.
Will the County grade my driveway?
Yes, the landowner will be charged $90.00 per hour, $50.00 charge minimum. To arrange for this to take place please phone into the county office and speak with the Operations Administration.
Will the County haul gravel to my residence?
At this time Kneehill County currently does not have the gravel quantity to supply landowners with gravel for their driveways.
Where can I take my garbage?
Kneehill County Garbage facilities are located at Acme, Carbon, Linden, Three Hills, Torrington and Trochu for ratepayers in the rural area to take their garbage too.
Where can I take my recycling?
At the Torrington and Linden Transfer Stations ratepayers are able to drop off TV’s, white metal and paint cans. At Carbon and Three Hills Transfer Stations paint cans are allowed to be dropped off at these facilities. In January 2010 Cardboard and Newspaper recycling will be available at all Transfer Stations in Kneehill County.
What can I do with my old paint and other household chemicals?
Old Paint Cans can be dropped off at the Carbon, Linden, Three Hills and Torrington Transfer Stations. Every spring, in the month of May for one Saturday Kneehill County runs a Toxic Round Up at the Kneehill County Shop. Watch the Kneehill County news section in The Capital Newspaper for notification of this date.
Will the County plow the snow on my driveway?
Yes, the landowner will be charged $90.00 per hour, $50.00 charge minimum. To arrange for this to take place please phone into the county office or place a flag at the end of your driveway. When the grader goes past your property they will plow your driveway and bill you accordingly.
What is the schedule for snow plows and graders?
Snow Plows – It may take up to three (3) days for snow removal, as long as we don’t experience any further snow fall. The snow plows do not take the same route every time and we do not follow the school bus route. Graders – It takes up to days for each division to be graded. Kneehill County moved to an 8th division in January 2009.
Do bus routes have priority when plowing snow?
The grader does not follow the school bus route or take the same route each time.
Who is responsible for maintenance and construction on Provincial (numbered) highways?
The Province is responsible for maintenance on numbered highways within Kneehill County. Currently at this time Ledcore is the contractor for the Province in this area.
Who does the County’s road construction?
The County does have their own road crew, each year we have projects completed by our own forces and also by contractors.
Will the County cost share to build a road?
Yes, this falls under Policy 5-13. The County will pay fifty percent (50%) of the costs, to a maximum of $15,000.00, including gravel and seeding costs, for the building of the road to County standards (as per Schedule A – Major Local Standard), with approval from Council upon recommendation from the Director of Operations.
What are the rules for building approaches?
This falls under Policy #’s: 13-15-2, 13-15-3 & 13-15-4 All approach location request must be approved by Kneehill County before being installed or constructed. A maximum of 2 approached and culverts on a half mile with residence and a maximum of 1 approach and culvert on a half mile without an occupied dwelling
Who handles roadside mowing and is there a schedule?
Any roadside mowing may be mowed to address safety concerns, improve visibility and lessen snow drifting. The decision for this mowing will be at the discretion of the Road Supervisor.
What are the water service areas and if I am in an area how do I arrange to connect?
To arrange to see if it is possible or connect to the water line in the area please contact the Water Department by calling the County office.
