With the introduction of distracted driving regulations (effective September 1st, 2011) there have been many questions, concerns and misconceptions with respect to allowable activities behind the wheel. We would like to take this opportunity to clarify the intent of this new legislation and provide some examples of allowed and not allowed activities while driving.
What activities are allowed? We are not talking about penalizing drivers for taking a sip of coffee, chatting with passengers or blowing their nose. We are talking about drivers who decide to put themselves and others at risk by watching movies, browsing for and downloading 'apps', applying makeup or shaving all while trying to navigate through traffic.
If further questions or concerns arise with respect to this or any other Provincial Statute or Bylaw matters our Officers would be pleased to discuss and find answers for you. We can be reached at (403) 443-5541.
