The total cost to build this new facility was $4,520,691 with funding coming from the Municipal Sustainability Initiative ($4,498,665) and from Kneehill County’s Building Reserve Fund ($22,026). The facility includes a shop area that is just over 14,000 square feet and includes a full-length wash bay. Two 15-ton overhead cranes will assist mechanics on the shop floor. The separate fabrication bay also includes a 5-ton overhead crane in addition to a separate air exhaust system. The light duty repair bay includes a 5-ton hoist. A 40-foot long pit will assist mechanics with repairs and maintenance to several of the County’s larger pieces of equipment. The facility’s air compressor and wash bay heating and pressure systems are enclosed in a soundproof room on the shop floor. Other features include three oil and fluid cubes, a fittings room and an abundance of natural light through the sunshine doors.

The facility also includes over 5,500 square feet of office area. This area will house parts inventory, staff lunch room and washroom facilities as well as offices for our road maintenance and construction staff and water and wastewater services staff. The second level of the office area is currently undeveloped and Council is considering development in this area to transfer more staff from our Administration Building.
