Mission
To increase adoption of beneficial management practices through all agriculture sectors in Kneehill County
About
The Kneehill Watershed Advisory Council (KWAC) is a group of local Kneehill County residents that are concerned about the health of the Kneehill County watersheds. The group members are local landowners, town residents and other interested parties.
We host information sessions and tours about riparian and creek health and sustainable agriculture practices. KWAC’s goals are to host these sessions to increase the education opportunities for our agricultural industry on beneficial management practices that are good for the environment and economics.
Watersheds in Kneehill County
A watershed is the land that catches snow and rain (think of it like an upside down umbrella) and drains the moisture into a central water system, which could be a creek, river or lake.
Kneehill County has three main creeks, the Kneehill, Three Hills and Ghost Pine, therefore we have three watersheds. Each of our three creeks drains into the Red Deer River which is becoming a major source of drinking water for our County residents. Regardless of if you live on a farm our in a town center, if you live in Kneehill County you live in a watershed; so remember that what you do in the watershed, on the land and in the water, eventually affects the drinking water you and others are consuming.
To be a good steward of your watersheds be aware of what you are pouring down the drain, how much water you are using and what you are washing into the sewer systems. All actions taken to preserve our watersheds benefit our future water quality.
