The Swalwell Ladies Town & Country Club 60th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee
On November 9, 1955, a group of ladies gathered at the home of Bea Young to form a club. The initial goal was simply to contribute to the community, with special focus on developing new amusements and entertainment for the local children. At this first meeting officers were elected and, there, our club found its beginning. It was decided that meetings would take place on the last Wednesday of every month. And so it went, with the first formal meeting on November 29 of that same year.
Since its humble beginnings, the club has undergone changes, but many of the original traditions have consistently maintained the attitude and vision of those founding women. Here we take a brief look at some of those traditions and subsequent changes, highlighting important and anecdotal themes on a decade-by-decade basis.
